Massive performance *amp set up help?

To the technical minded:

I need an local webserver set up with decent performance for the website conversion - using the webhost is out as they have a max database size of only 100mb. I will need more during the conversion.

I have tried both wampserver and XAMPP - XAMPP being the more successful. But they seem to throttle the performance.

I want it to take up all my resources and complete the task, not take up say 5% and take hours upon hours.

Ofcourse on a real live server you would not want a single php operation to take that many resources, but this is a special one off thing...

Any tips.
