Feature: Private Messages

I thought it is a good idea to toot my own horn. So lets talk Private messages. This should be massively better than what we had before. New features:

  • Search usernames as you type - matching usernames will show in the "to:" box.
  • Send to multiple members.
  • Unlimited messages - You may even have access to some messages thought lost long ago!
  • Threading. This should make it easier to follow the conversation.
  • Block messages - You an now block users from sending you messages! Ideal when trying to ignore the existence of another member.
  • contacts list - a list of members you have previously sent messages to.
  • Recycle bin - A safety step before deletion.
  • Notifications. When you get a new message, you should see a notification of the message on the top right hand corner of the screen (if you have js enabled, which everyone does). Pretty nifty IMO.

And now a downside - I don't think the Private messages are working... can't seem to be able to send them.

lol, Im just finding it difficult to realize which thread has new posts and which doesnt... if only they were highlighted before.

Plus theres no 'Quote' button to quote that persons post. Not to mention you cant delete your own posts.

but im sure it will come in due time.

If you mean "topics with new posts", I think I better colour that star in orange... to make it stand out.

As for posts themselves, I will see what I can do.

A quote button in on the ToDo list.

As for delete... I am in two minds about that. Should I allow it or not?

i was liking the look of the new forum, but where are the smilies? quote button? cant see which posts are new.....dont like the last post so many days ago.....as long as ur working on things i wont complain!

You can. Just not in bulk. go to read the message. click delete.

The other stuff is on my ToDo list, but I have way too much to do... and to think all this change was designed to REDUCE my workload...

Can you try again? It may have been a problem with the upgrade I was trying to do.

EDIT - yeah, it is broken atm.

EDIT 2 - It should work now. However there may be other errors. Let me know if anything is spotted.

I should be updating to a new version in approximately one hours time (if I am right it will be "released" at around 12:21am) and that should have the "email ya'qub" feature working again... thought no idea why it is broken atm. the relevant code is the same - changes were made elsewhere.

Fixed - but the problem was elsewhere, not in the private messaging code itself.
