Inner Self

The Lamp —

Hello you all! It's been a long time coming, but after so long I've managed to do something I haven't done for ages. I've written another poem.

I'd like to give special credit to Power of Silence for her encouragement; naturally I decided to call this poem Inner Self. Enjoy!

Seeing you again makes me grin and laugh like I’m lame

A sense of happiness, joy, nostalgia, longingness and then shame

I look upon you, the one who saw and shone so bright

Putting trust in you, your honour and your loyalty would confirm I was right.

Your spirit, your soul would energise me whole

Would make me feel blessed and alive

You gave me true wealth, true beauty and drive

You believed, had hope and had faith in me

Despite your merriness you had great sincerity

Shame and bitter sadness has engulfed me

You must disappointed at who you see

This man is tired, worn and bitter behind his visor

Selfishness he has mistaken for being shrewd and wiser

He thought you were dead, gone forever

Today is a day that has never been braver

For moons his fury and loathing tormented who he had become

But his soul was weak enough to succumb

He gazed into a piece of glass, crying silently, discreetly for who he had lost

Then something gave a hopeful scintilla

This held the demons

This was a great healer

A wave of purity washed over me

I remembered the man I used to be

I hope, I pray for the strength, the drive, spirit and relief

I hope you stay

I take this leap of strength, love and courage, with self-belief

I hope you stay

yay 😃

Glad you're back into it, but I don't need any credit for it! I hardly did anything!

You taught me at least one new word :p

It's good šŸ™‚

I like the whole self-discovery theme and I can understand where you're coming from. Looking back at certain parts of life when you were better/worse does bring about certain feelings which can deflate you. It's great when you can feel positive again, though! :p
