The other topic has got pretty big, and is going over too many diferent itterations of the homepage to be useful.


In short, The new homepage has been up for a few weeks now. The relief that I actually finished it is over. I can see way too many faults in it.


However, I want to know what faults others see in it, as because I am so close to its creation, my flaws may be diferent from what others see.


Currently what I think are the problems:


1. Its too amateurish. Great ideas with very poor execution. No finesse.

2. If you have a decent monitor, you may aswell puke before you visit, as the result of viewing in a resolution anything above 800*600 is pretty poor.

3. too many lists, which are too long.

4. Lack of focus. Its a bit of a jack of all trades. Probably because of the war between me and 'Ed where it is impossible to agree to his 'design' ideas, as I find them just so 1995.


so what catches the eye? what is bad? what is good? what gains focus?


and colourscheme wise should we go back to some form of green?


(asa forum skin there is one called nosebleed which actually goes pretty well with the site, and is cool...)

erm... you do realise it does not cover a full row? and why does it need to be on the homepage?


its not even important. Its secondary content. Content, that after a person has discovered the site may be interested in having a look at. The site already needs to be more focussed than it is... not less focussed.


and what does everyone else think of keeping the page to the left? ort is centre better? I prefer centre myself...

I defo prefer Centre, left or right alligned is jus kinda childish unprofessional unorientated..


Multimedia tv guide etc i beleive shud b on homepage defo. Announcments is good, but we need to figure a way of gettin about 5 or 6 on at once, without it lookin overcrowded.


I like the pink bckground, easy on the eyes, seemed kinda gay at 1st but its ok now

The Red border is a good compliment to the background tile.


The colour sceme n bckground seem to hav been figured out, needs to stay centred. red border is good.


Need to put the multimedia bit onto the homepage defo. And a few more buttons for articles.

Bit anyway I actually need to change that pattern... I have a very specific one in mind... just cannot find it anywhere... Its similar to this:

But its more in a blue-grey (with light background...), and is actually a pretty famous 'islamic' art, and is used in many places... But cannot find it now! any help?

I have changed the background (though not to the ones suggested above...).


It this better?


I am also adding a row at the bottom to add a few things such as search box, egroup. Next to that Instead of listing multimedia, I will add an image to it, aswell having a second one linking to agony aunt.


And it'll all be inside the contentbox, and not above the background as it is atm.

we're getting our new 32inch moniter on monday-so it'd be even bigger than the one we have now


so back ground is VERY important to me

There it this particular pattern, similar to the one I have used that I have seen elsewhere (but cannot remember where), which I like. I just cannot seem to find it.

It seems a li'l bright? Or is it just me and my like for understating things? (The orange is a massive departure for me!)


Does the current combination hurt the eyes?


If not, then it is doing its job. There is supposed to be a bit of a clash. (I hate matching colours too much.)


And if its doing its job, is it still poor?

ok... what ewxsactly have I done wrong when applying the finishing touches?


1. The background tile...you do not like.


2. erm... what about the four 'traintickets' at the bottom? are they ok, or gottago?


3. erm that us all I have really changed! (aprt from small sprucing up... which just made things fit into their places...)

1-yes I hate the tiles -the wallpaper puts me to sleep and makes me angry


its the UGLIEST thing i have ever seen


2-your "traintickets" look weird-they look like four fat ugly buttons-once again in a granny grey colour :roll:


3-you need to tidy up ALL of the bottom (startimg from under the announcements bit)

ok... changed the red line to grey (lilsis will probably not be happy about that...) on the homepage.


on the [url=http://www.therevival.co.uk/test.php]testpage[/url], I have replaced the tile pattern with an offwhite shade, aswell as moving the ting to the left.


How does it look?

(better be quick in replying, as I am gonna massacre the testpage soon with more changes...)


If the other changes I am plannig work out, the page may stay left-aligned... unless there is a massive uproar.
